Description
"Double plate" or "safety" exchangers are used to limit the risk of contamination of one fluid by the other fluid if a plate proves to be faulty (corrosion, cracks, etc.). If a plate no longer seals, the fluid will flow outside without being able to contaminate the second fluid.
Note: Double plates are not recommended on networks where pressure differences and / or pressure gradients are large. Repeated pressure surges can cause weakness on the seals, which can eventually cause the fluids to mix, the main function of the exchanger then no longer being ensured.
The food industries are the main users of this type of exchanger, both for process applications (cooling of milk with ice water) or on utilities such as DHW preheating with MEG (heat recovery on cold group) .
